Frequently Asked Questions

Moving across borders involves complex logistics and strict regulations. At Relocate Mee, we simplify the global transition. Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often from our international clients.

1. How far in advance should I book my international move?

For international relocations, we recommend contacting Relocate Mee at least 8 to 12 weeks before your intended departure date. This allows ample time for coordinating shipping schedules, securing insurance, and preparing the detailed inventory documentation required for customs clearance.

Yes. Every country has unique import regulations and duty requirements. Our team provides comprehensive guidance on the necessary documentation—including visas, packing lists, and declarations—to ensure your shipment clears customs smoothly and without unnecessary delays.

Standard moving insurance often lacks the depth required for high-value assets. Relocate Mee offers specialized Marine Transit Insurance and enhanced valuation coverage specifically for pianos, fine art, and vehicles. This ensures that your most prized possessions are protected against the unique risks of sea or air freight.

For international moves, we strongly advise using our Professional Packing Service. Customs officials are often wary of “Packed by Owner” (PBO) boxes, which can lead to intrusive inspections and delays. Our team uses export-grade materials and techniques that meet international shipping standards, ensuring both safety and compliance.
Transit times vary significantly based on your destination and chosen method:
  • Sea Freight: Typically 4 to 12 weeks depending on the global route.
  • Air Freight: Usually 5 to 10 days, ideal for essential items.
  • Road (Europe): Generally 2 to 7 days for door-to-door delivery.

If you are moving an entire household, Relocate Mee offers a Full Container Load (FCL), giving you exclusive use of a 20ft or 40ft shipping container. For smaller shipments or single specialty items, Groupage (Shared Container) is a cost-effective option where you only pay for the space your items occupy.

Absolutely. Relocate Mee specializes in the complex transport of vehicles and the safe relocation of pets. We ensure all veterinary records, microchipping, and quarantine requirements are met so your entire family can settle in together.

Our service doesn’t end at the port. Relocate Mee coordinates the “final mile” delivery. This includes customs clearance, transport to your new residence, and the careful unpacking of your furniture and specialty items. We also offer settling-in services to help you find your feet in your new neighborhood.

Yes. Most countries prohibit hazardous materials (aerosols, flammables), perishable food, plants, and certain liquids. Relocate Mee will provide you with a destination-specific “Prohibited Items List” during your initial consultation to help you plan your shipment.
